New Trend in Dog Sports – Skijoring

Imagine yourself on a pair of cross-country skis. The sun is beating down on your face; it’s a beautiful day. Oh, and you’re being dragged by a horse or a team of dogs at top speed through an obstacle course of jumps and gates. Sounds a bit less idyllic and more frightening, doesn’t it? Welcome to competitive skijoring! This sport actually originated several hundred years ago in Scandinavia. The Laplanders traveled by skis in the winter. They would hold reins attached to a reindeer to make it easier to traverse the deep snow. Over the years the desire to prove whose reindeer was fastest turned it into a timed competition. The sport evolved to include horses and dogs, although in Scandinavia you can still race competitively with a reindeer. It came to North America in the 1950s as an equestrian event. Instead of a reindeer, a horse and rider pull the skier. ...

RIP Social Media’s Celeb Dachshund Alan TBH Plumptre

Alan TBH Plumptre Social media has made stars out dogs, as well as people. Both Facebook and Twitter boast hundreds of accounts that are “written” by dogs. These accounts often have thousands of followers and likes. The friendly nature of the dog has always made him a favorite with the public. Enter Alan TBH Plumptre. French Bulldog Stolen at Gunpoint Returned to Owner

TAMPA, Fl - A French Bulldog, Bueller, and his owner were reunited tonight after a whirlwind of a weekend. On Friday evening, Derek McComber was walking Bueller when two men in a gray Honda Civic approached him. One of the men asked McComber what type of dog Bueller was and when he replied, the man pointed a handgun at McComber and grabbed the dog before jumping back into the car and speeding away. After the police failed to take action, McComber immediately took to Facebook, Instagram and other social media to post notices about Buellers “dognapping,” creating the page “Help Find Bueller” on Facebook. Early Saturday morning a resident, Gregory Sakas, who lives in close proximity from where Bueller was taken, saw Bueller in his yard and took him in. Sakas posted “Found Dog” flyers around the area but to no avail. Finally, after contacting local veterinary offices, Sakas caught a lead ...
