Betty White Judges Happy Healthy Cat Campaign Photo Contest

Denver, Co. - After hundreds of adorable, hilarious, and outrageous submissions to the Happy Healthy Cat Campaign Photo Contest, the Morris Animal Foundation sent the best of the best to celebrity and longtime foundation trustee Betty White for final judging. She selected the cute photo of two cuddled cats, Marshmellow and Noodles, snuggled up in a blanket submitted by Brittany Carper of Seguin, Texas. Her photo will be the cover photo of Morris Animal Foundation's publication, AnimalNews, and she will receive a gift card to Petco and an assortment of pet products from Sergeant's Pet Care Products. New York, NY - New Hampshire Governor John Lynch presented an Official Commendation to AKC/Eukanuba National Champion and New Hampshire's Top Dog, Australian Shepherd Ch. Propwash Reckon. Owners Leslie Frank and Judy Harrington were on-hand for the ceremony as a follow-up to the Dec 4-5 win in Long Beach, CA at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. After a grueling competition with 2,500 dogs in 49 states and 40 countries, "Reckon" won with an impressive showing for a top notch dog of his breed. The network television premiere of the competition will air this Sunday, January 23rd at 2 p.m. EST on ABC. Cat Summoned to Jury Duty in Boston

BOSTON, Ma.   - Bizarre but true, a cat has been summoned to jury duty by Suffolk Superior Crown Court in Boston, Ma, after being listed as a "member of the family" on the last census.  Upon receiving the notification, bemused owners, Anna and Guy Esposito, wrote to the court to explain that a mistake had been made - Tabby Sal is a cat. The Esposito's included a letter from their vet confirming that the cat was a "domestic short-haired neutered feline" and further explained that "Sal is a member of the family so I listed him on the last Census form under pets but there has clearly been a mix-up". The letter went on to say that Tabby Sal, was "unable to speak and understand English". ‘Angry Cats’ Among Reasons For Decline In Vet Visits, Bayer Study Reveals

SHAWNEE, Kan. - Bayer Animal Health, in partnership with Brakke Consulting and the National Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues (NCVEI), released the details of the Bayer Veterinary Care Usage Study today, revealing a myriad of reasons for the yearly decline in veterinary visits for companion animals. While many perceive economic factors as a primary driver, the results of the study showed other reasons pet owners choose not to keep annual appointments with their vet. The study included interviews with individuals and focus groups with veterinarians, focus groups with pet owners, and a national survey of over 2,000 dog and cat owners across the United States. In addition they tested propositions to encourage more vet visits.
