
14 cases of the bacterial infection, salmonella, have been found in humans in nine states which have been linked to contaminated pet food. This has prompted the Food and Drug Administration to expand its initial recall of Diamond Pet Food products manufactured between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012, from the company’s plant in Gaston, SC. On May 4, 2012, Diamond Pet Foods expanded its own recall to include Puerto Rico, parts of Canada and 21 states in the US including: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia. The FDA also warns that additional States may be affected due to sales by pet food vendors.
