After being abandoned by their mom in a concrete factory in Redruth, a group of four kittens, only four weeks old, were luckily found and are being cared for and nursed back to health by the staff at the Cats Protection Charity. The first step was to give the little guys a cleansing bath, where it was discovered that their fur has actually been dyed pink! That's right, these kittens are actually pink and will probably remain that way until their fur starts to grow out. Nicknamed 'Pink Panther', she has been giving the staff quite a laugh, as hers is the only fur that won't come clean. The other kittens, one male and two other females have been named Clouseau, Dusty and Cerise. It is thought that the pink hue to her fur came from the close proximity to the red pigment used in concrete manufacturing during their stay at the factory. The dying is ...
Pets On Death Row Pardoned
Shelters across the United States are always stretched the limit in terms of man power, facilities, food, medicine and money. The reality is that sheltered pets are at risk of being euthanized. Pet Pardons has a better idea by providing a way for people on Facebook to connect with sheltered pets to get them adopted before it’s too late. Pet Pardons fans get daily updates that they can then share with others by clicking the “advocate” button on the pet’s profile that is in need of adopting. "By educating the public about the number of pets killed in America," said Ashley Hill, Co-Founder and Communications Director, "Pet Pardons aims to promote adoption, spay/neuter, and volunteerism." Even if the fan cannot adopt the pet they can send money to the shelter and hopefully save the pets life or extend it until someone comes forward and adopts the pet. "Shelter workers, rescue groups, and ...
Pair of Peacocks Reunited With Owners After Escaping Property
Byfield, MA - Thanks to a kind, retired high school science teacher in Newbury, the still missing runaway peacock has been safely reunited with its owner in Byfield. After the pair of peacocks, who go by the names of Donald and Daisy, went missing, owner T.J. Martin feared the worst. They don't cuddle, they don't sit on your lap, and they certainly don't play with tennis balls, but these two peacocks are still considered this household's family pets. Martin acquired Donald and Daisy from a friend, and kept them in a coop on his property. Just weeks after getting them, they both managed to escape the coop. Daisy was found just hours after Martin noticed they were missing, but as the days turned into weeks, Donald was still out there somewhere. As it turns out, Donald was found by Dave Taylor, a retired high school science teacher from Triton Regional School District. When Taylor found ...
Would You Mummify Your Pet?
Some people have a hard time letting go of their pets when they die. The emotions are just too painful, so what do they do? Some turn to a sorceress in Brooklyn New York to have their pet mummified. That’s right, mummified just like in old Egypt. The Brooklyn mystic, PD Cagliastro, studied for 20 years to get the “formula” right by consulting individuals and text in the fields of embalming, chemistry and from ancient Egypt. "It was a sick fascination," said Cagliastro, who works and lives in her "house of death" with her teenage daughter and husband, an exterminator. “Heart-broken men make up 70 percent of her business,” she said. In order to mummify the animals, Cagliastro must first remove the animal’s organs and then the animal is dried out for months in salt mixture. All other remains must then be removed after the animal is taken from the salt bath. ...

Large Husky Mix is Perpetrator in Animal Shelter Break-in
Fairbanks, AK - One of the strangest break-ins in Alaskan history has hit the news Wednesday morning. The perpetrator? A large black, tan and white husky mix, caught on surveillance tapes as the culprit in this bizarre story. Apparently, the husky just had to get inside of the Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Control Shelter, and he did so by actually digging his way in. Shelter workers discovered the break-in upon arriving at 7:30am, preparing for a start of new work day. The shelter staff quickly chose a name for the dog, calling him Albert, but a more appropriate name would have been "digger". The beginning of the break-in started around 1:00am, where surveillance tapes caught "Albert" sniffing around the building and the perimeter of the fenced-in dog yard at Peger and Davis roads. He would occasionally walk out to Peger road, perhaps looking for a ride to freedom, but instead came ...
Disaster Plans For Pets
It’s that time year again when Dorothy, Toto and Auntie Em head for the hills to find safe shelter. But this is no laughing matter when it comes to being prepared for you, your family and you pets, in the event of a hurricane, tornado, flooding or other natural and man-made disasters. Here are some major planning recommendations from the ASPCA: Get a rescue ...
Dog Exercise: 7 Ways To Take It To The Next Level
Does Fido need to strengthen his core? Is your workout time with your dog becoming routine and dull? Is walking your dog just not enough to get you or your dog in the kind of shape you want to be in? In recent studies by the Journal of Physical Activity dog owners that workout with their dogs increase their weekly minutes by 34 percent. "It really depends on the breed and the fitness level of the dog," says Jackie Epping, a public health scientist in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "I know people who run several miles a day with their dog, and their dog does just fine. Some breeds, such as dogs in the working group, tend to need more exercise generally. But the key is to know your particular dog's limitations.” So let’s take it to a new ...
Cat Superstitions From Around the World
Why is it that because today is Friday the 13th, that people are genuinely more concerned about a black cat crossing their path? One possible explanation is that the age old superstition has been so ingrained in our minds, probably since we were just children, that it can sometimes be hard to just ignore. We have been brought up to be superstitious of many things besides a black cat, like walking under a ladder, opening an umbrella in the house, and even breaking a mirror. Most of these fears have a central underlying theme...that we will be forced to live a life of bad luck. Well, not all cat superstitions should be feared, as quite a few of them would actually bring good luck and wealth. For thousands of years, black cats have been regarded as mysterious creatures with supernatural powers and were associated with witches and even death. It was ...
