The start of 2012 has pet owners everywhere making new year’s resolutions, vowing to make this year even better than last year for their family in terms of health and happiness, and that includes their pets. There are certain things you can do now, at the start of the year, to give your pet the best chance of having a healthy life.
The first thing you can do is to schedule a check-up with your pet’s veterinarian. If you don’t already have a regular veterinarian that you visit, make an informed decision about choosing one by talking to friends and neighbors about who they take their pets to. Schedule this appointment to have the vet give your pet a complete physical, looking for anything that could potentially be a threat to your pets health.
Depending on the climate of where you live, you want to be completely informed about the prevention of fleas, ticks, and parasitic threats to your outdoor pet. Gather information in order to take the proper precautions to eliminate the problem before it starts.
Another issue you’ll want your veterinarian to check on is the dental health of your pet. Dental problems are among the top health problems in both cats and dogs, but there are things you can do to help prevent and treat them, from teeth cleaning to changing the type of treats you give.
While at your pets check-up, find out what vaccinations are required in order to keep your pets in top health, like the Lyme vaccine and rabies vaccine just to name a few. Vaccinations are a key preventative measure in ensuring you have a healthy pet.
Something you may not have considered as a measure to help ensure you have a healthy pet is vitamins. Pet vitamins work in the same way human vitamins do in that they supplement for the nutrients that may be lacking in the diet. Both dog’s and cat’s bodies require certain elements that are essential for good health.
Help you pets start off the new year right by doing everything you can to ensure they lead a healthy and happy life.
